From the Principal

Dear Families and Friends

Welcome to Term 2. I hope you all enjoyed some rest over the holiday break and managed to remember what day it was with all the public holidays scattered throughout!

The true winter weather has arrived early and whilst it caused the cancellation of our Family Sports and Activities Afternoon the rain is an absolute blessing that we are so grateful for. We look forward to this event when it is held later in the year.

By the time our next newsletter is published the federal election will be over and hopefully we will have a positive outcome. Included in this newsletter is some information for you about the crucial area of education policy.

There has been a change to parking arrangements in front of our Union Street entrance as a result of identifying the challenge faced by many of our parents, particularly in the Junior Class who had to park a significant distance from the school for morning and afternoon drop off and pick up. This area is now a 10 minute drop off / pick up zone between 8:00-9:30am and 2-3:30pm. Thank you to our Occupational Therapist, Megan who identified the issue and was very proactive to do something about it. The Burnside Council were very supportive, and we are appreciative of their quick action to have the new signs in place.

Chris Lemon will be taking Long Service Leave this term from the 20th May – 7th June. We wish her well as she celebrates a very important first birthday in Perth and some wonderful adventures in South Africa.

With a heavy heart and wonderful memories, Meg Rogerson has resigned from her position at St Patrick’s. Meg has been a committed and passionate Education Support Officer for eleven years and has contributed in so many ways to our school community. As many of you know, Meg is a talented photographer and she has taken so many beautiful images of our students over the years. The black and white framed portraits at our art exhibition were certainly a stand out for me and I am sure for you as well. Meg and her husband Matt now live in beautiful Port Elliott and the daily seaside photo opportunities and relaxed lifestyle have rightfully captured Meg! We wish Meg and Matt well and there will be an opportunity to farewell them soon.

This weekend is a time to celebrate and remember our mothers and other significant and special women in our lives. To all our St Patrick’s Mums & Carers, you are truly amazing, and may God bless you today and forever.

I hope to see you at our school mass on Thursday 16th May at 10am.

Kind regards

Cathy

In the Green Class in conjunction with our science studies of natural disasters and droughts, we have designed and made rain gauges. This is Sammy's recount of his experience:

"I really enjoyed my rain gauge yesterday because it was so much fun. I will check my gauge every morning. I think it rained last night but I wouldn’t have a clue if it’s got water in it or not.
On Wednesday the rain Gauge had 10 mls of rain in it.
On Thursday the rain Gauge had 12 mls of rain in it.
On Friday the rain gauge had 10 mls of rain in it.
Over the weekend we got 12 mls.
I like the rain gauge."
