Term 2 ~ Issue 8 ~ 21 June 2019
Opening Prayer

God is far off, unapproachable,
mysterious, uncontrollable;
and yet, amazingly,
this same unapproachable
and mysterious God
draws us near and
touches us. . . . These two,
the beyondness and
the nearness, are always
held together in tension.

Trinity Sunday

Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday after Pentecost, provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the mystery of God. Christians believe in one God who is a Trinity of love: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Catherine LuCugna, an American Theologian, suggests that the doctrine of Trinity helps us answer the question, ‘How are we to live and relate to others so as to be most Godlike’.  Catherine suggests that we do this when we live in relationships based on ‘mutuality and equality’. The Holy Spirit calls us to live authentically with God, one another and the whole of creation.

From the Principal

Dear Families and Friends

It really is hard to believe we are nearly at the end of the term. I am reminded of this because I am privileged to be reading student reports in readiness for them to be sent home for you to read about your child’s learning journey.

Earlier this year a survey was sent home to families inviting comments about the reporting process and we thank you for your responses. As a result, there have been some slight adjustments to the format this semester. We are trialing new Progress Descriptors for the Junior students and the Senior students enrolled in SACE (Modified) will receive a Progress Report consistent with SACE requirements. We look forward to your feedback on these adjustments.

Last week we held a parent information evening about post school pathways. Approximately thirty parents and caregivers attended the information session. Speakers from various organisations spoke briefly about the post school pathways they provide and then answered questions. We also heard from a past parent, Evelyn McCloy who shared her son’s post school experience.  We know post school can be a daunting thought but it is so important that we begin the conversation with you as early as possible to ensure the most successful pathway for each student.

Kind regards

Cathy

This will help people that don’t have anything!!

At assembly in week 10, we will give the collected items to Jayne Shortt from St. Vincent de Paul and she will give them to the people who need some extra help.

Basketball Carnival

On Thursday of Week 8 a group of eight senior and middle school students set off for the annual inclusive basketball carnival hosted by Springbank Secondary College.
During our four games we were unlucky not to walk away with a victory, but the great time had by all and the sportsmanship on display made the day.

Thomas quickly turned defence into offence and Christopher also managed a few points on the fast break. When they weren’t making friends with students from Springbank, Scarlet, Isaiah and Melissa seemed to be everywhere. Nhung capitalised on some sneaky scoring chances, Jack did some great work on both sides of the court and Angus managed to love every second of it.

The positive attitudes of our students are cause for celebration and we can be very proud of the way they represented our school. I dare say a good night’s sleep was had by all in attendance!

Library Visit

On Friday a group of senior students visited Burnside Library. The students really embraced the experience and showed delight in being able to explore the various spaces, activities and wonderful books, DVDs, games and CDs available.

The library provides students with an opportunity to explore the many joys of books while being active members of the local community. The students were able to choose a book to borrow and bring back to school so they can continue to enjoy them over the week.

Students from the primary and middle classes look forward to visiting the library next week and we are all excited to be welcoming the Burnside Mobile Library Van to St Patrick’s in Term 3.
