From the Principal...

Dear Parents,

Our graduation ceremony was held on Friday 30th October and it was a wonderful celebration for eight of our students and their families.

Adriana, Matthew, John, Thomas, Alexander, Scarlett, Mandy and Michael are all preparing to begin or have already started their post school pathways. Many stories were shared about their journey at St Patrick’s and there were certainly many mixed emotions in the room on the night. There was such joy when watching the photo stories and listening to the teachers share beautiful memories and a touch of sadness knowing we will all miss these amazing young people in our community.

We are currently finalising classes and staffing for 2021 and will communicate this with you later this term. We are also welcoming our new students that will join us next year through their transition visits. Our current students certainly make them feel welcome which is great to see.

You will receive an email today in relation to the use of the School Bus Service so please keep an eye out for that. We are very fortunate to have our school buses but they require a great deal of organisation and planning so we appreciate you returning the information to us as soon as possible.

Last week we enjoyed Outdoor Classroom Day. It was a fabulous way to show that learning can happen anywhere and the students explored and experienced so many elements of nature using the different senses. Thank you to our amazing OT’s Kylie and Tom who facilitated this amazing day.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

Cathy

Basketball Carnival

This term a group of nine excited students from the middle and senior classes departed St Pat's for the Springbank Inclusive Basketball Carnival.

Our first fixture saw us prevail against the home team, Springbank Secondary College. Some fantastic passing lead to open shots, with Thomas finding his sweet spot just below the free throw line. Gemma was stellar in defence and lead the game in rebounds. We then took on Golden Grove, where Melissa and Scarlett’s involvement with bringing the ball up the court lead the way to another victory. Our third game was against a traditional powerhouse, Henley High School. We chalked up another win, with Isaiah and Alex's team-first attitude a standout in the performance.

We were 3-0 heading into our fourth game, against another Henley team. While Nhung played a key role with her passing and Angus took some great aims at the basket, the height of our opponents proved too much to overcome. Our final game was against Gawler. Michael put in a herculean effort and played the entire game, including some great pressure defence that lead to steals in the half court. Nevertheless, some key plays down the final stretch saw Gawler take the win.

We finished the day with 3 wins and 2 losses; a great effort against some tough competition. Regardless of the results, the clear highlight of the day was the manner in which our students conducted themselves – they were respectful, thoughtful of others and displayed great sportsmanship during the competition. Our students gave everything across our 5 games and the afternoon bus journey back to school was certainly quieter than in the morning!
