In English we have been reading “How the Birds got their Colours”. After reading the story, all students made a bird feeder. The bird feeders have been hung around the Senior yard, so hopefully we will see some birds dining on the wild bird seeds soon.

From The Principal

Dear Families,

As we begin the final week of the term, and what a term it has been, I want to officially share our new logo and give you some insight as to the process we undertook to achieve what I believe is a beautiful representation of our school.

As a staff we spent time in 2018 and 2019 reshaping the school’s vision and mission and during this process identified that the school logo was perhaps in need of updating. I mentioned this in a school newsletter and was delighted to receive an email from Frank Aloi (Archie’s dad) offering to share his expertise and work with us to design something new. We met with Frank on several occasions to really open a dialogue about what we wanted the logo to represent. As a result of our conversations and Frank’s firsthand experience as a parent of our school words like human, acceptance, organic, joyful, unique, calming and most importantly Catholic, were identified as the elements we would want to see and feel in the logo.

Frank created several designs and following consultation, refinement and discussion we decided on two final designs. These were displayed in the front office and shared at our welcome night so members of the school community could vote. We were overwhelmed with how many people took the time to vote and comment on the new designs and we absolutely valued the voice of our students. We received an overwhelming number of votes for the final design we chose.

The cross represents our Catholic Identity and communicates a sense of welcome, acceptance and joy. The circle represents wholeness, connectedness and the reciprocal and continuing relationship we hold with our students and families at school. The circle also reminds us of our connection with the earth and our responsibility to love and care for God’s creation.

I take this opportunity to thank Frank for his time, expertise, dedication and commitment to designing something that can speak to people in ways unique to them and ways that make meaning of who we are as a school community. We could not have asked for more.

In an earlier newsletter I informed you that Chris Lemon had taken long service leave for term 2. Chris has now tendered her resignation from her role as Assistant Principal, a position that she has held for 14 years. Chris has been a most dedicated and passionate leader in this school community and will be very missed. As she ventures to new things, I know she takes the prayers and best wishes of you all with her. I hope we can have an opportunity to farewell her in the near future. Sean Perry has been acting in the role this term and will continue for term 3 and the position will then be advertised as a substantive permanent role. I thank Sean for his amazing work this term and to Sacred Heart College for allowing him to continue in the acting role.

Later this week you will be receiving our new look reports and I will include an overview of the direction we are taking with our curriculum design, assessment and reporting and the new Personalised Plans for Learning (PPL) to replace the existing IEP’s.

In closing, I want to personally thank you all for your support throughout one of the most challenging times we have experienced. I also want to acknowledge the commitment of the staff here who have continued to provide a quality learning program in very difficult circumstances. I thank you for your ongoing support in keeping students home when they are unwell which has reduced the number of staff becoming unwell and needing to stay home which can be very difficult for us to manage.

I wish you all a happy holiday break and hopefully we will continue to see some of the beautiful winter sun we had over the weekend.

Warm blessings,

Cathy

Work Skills Group

The Senior Work Skills group has recently begun work with Domenic and Elise from Down The Rabbit Hole Wines. Students are using the ‘Rabbit’ stamp to print different sized brown bags. During the work skills time students are required to wear appropriate protective clothing, such as high visibility vests. One student is required to collect the vests and distribute to all members of the group. All students are required to wash their hands prior to commencing work and sign in. Students work together during this work skill to stamp, count and package the bags to be ready for delivery back to Domenic and Elise. Down The Rabbit Hole staff then use the bags to package items for sale. It is such a fantastic opportunity for students to be involved in preparing goods for such a wonderful local business!

Students have been practicing making their own sandwiches, selecting ingredients and completing the appropriate steps to make their desired lunch. Some of the students are choosing to toast their sandwiches which has been perfect for this wintery weather. Well done Seniors!

You are invited to register your interest if you think your child would maybe like to celebrate a day full of fun!

The Party is scheduled to go ahead for 2020, in some form or another and depending on Government regulations due to COVID-19, they have a Plan A, B, C and D.
A 3 hour stage show featuring many local and national celebrities will keep the children entertained. There will be activities such as merry go-rounds, jumping castles, face painting and much more. Food, drinks, lollies and ice creams are provided for your child for free. Of course no Christmas party is complete without Santa and after greeting the children from the stage he will go off to his toy room. There he will meet with all the children individually.

If you would like to apply for tickets, please contact Sheree by Tuesday 21st July 2020 via email info@stpats.catholic.edu.au.
